Signature
Description:
This opener was written for the 10th anniversary of Brass Band Midden
Brabant (BBMB), the composer’s own band. A soft and lyrical middle
section follows on the powerful opening fanfare which, if the technical
equipment is available, can be used as background music for a spoken
text or presentation. The finale is distinctly rhythmical in character,
and develops into a somewhat unusual ending. Here, the composer piles
ten different notes on top of each other, representing the BBMB
anniversary in a musical way. At a later date the composer made two new
versions of Signature, namely for wind band and fanfare.

Signature is the first piece
Signature is the first piece i have ever played with a 9/8 time signature. The feel is absolutely the most tricky i have ever played, it is not straight forward or at all easy to adapt to, and the fingerings for the woodwinds can be rather tricky. however, it is so worth it. We read through this piece once in our Sr. Wind group, and I instantly loved it. It has such a majestic feel to it in the first half, and then concludes with an upbeat 9/8 that leaves the listener overcome with energy. Very tricky to play, difficult to master, but overall such a joy to listen to, conduct or be a part of
Awesome, memorable piece
I played this piece in my high school Symphonic group 19 years ago, and to this day, I can hum the music and remember not only the composer but the song title. I loved it as much then as I do now. Truely an amazing work of musical talent and inspiration.
